Heavy Gear Tournament Rules

Force Construction

  1. Each player will have a single squadron/cadre of Gears with a total Threat Value of no more than 3200. The squadron will have no more than six Gears and no less than four.
  2. No squadron/cadre may include any vehicle with an availability number over 10. Only 1 vehicle with an availability number over 8 is allowed. No more than half the squadron/cadre may have availability numbers over 6.
  3. Each player may have one Veteran (TVx2.25) and one Skilled (TVx1.5) Gear. All other Gears must be Qualified.
  4. All Gears must be from published DP9 books, preferably the Northern or Southern Vehicle Compendium Volume 1. No home built or customized designs are allowed.
  5. Each player must have vehicle sheets for each of his Gears, or a squadron sheet for all of them. In case of conflict between a vehicle sheet and the rulebook, the rulebook values are correct.
  6. A player gets 50 extra TV for his force for every painted miniature he provides for that force.
  7. The tournament judges will provide several sample forces for players who do not have miniatures or Vehicle Compendiums.

Rules of Play

  1. The Silhouette Tactical Rules, 2nd Edition, will be used for this tournament. The definitive source for those rules will be the Heavy Gear Tactical Boxed Set.
  2. The maximum threshold for ECM will be 6. Any ECM threshold over 6 will be reduced to 6.
  3. No other optional rules will be used.
  4. Battles will be played on a 2.5 (50 hexes) by 1.5 km (30 hexes) field. Hex size will be determined by the amount of space available. The judges will place terrain. Each player will set up on a short side of the table, no more than 5 hexes in.

Scoring

  1. Each player will be randomly paired off with another player. They will have two hours to engage each other. The objective is the destruction of the enemy force.
  2. The player who has inflicted the most losses on his opponent will advance to the next round. Each destroyed/inoperable vehicle counts at its TV for victory conditions. Each damaged vehicle capable of moving and firing counts at 10% of its TV per Light Damage and 25% of its TV per Heavy Damage, up to a maximum of its TV.
  3. If both players inflict the same amount of damage on each other, the player with lower cost force will advance to the next round.

Floor Rules

  1. The first round of the tournament will begin at 11am on Saturday morning. Each additional round will start roughly two hours after the previous round (exact times will be announced at least an hour in advance by the judges). Players who are more than ten minutes late to their match will forfeit that match.
  2. Cheating or physical violence will be grounds for immediate disqualification.
  3. Poor sportsmanship can be cause for disqualification. The judges will provide a warning first.
  4. The judge's word on rules interpretations is final. Arguing with the judges is grounds for disqualification. The judges will provide a warning first.
