How to Install Netscape for Use on CompuServe
and America OnLine
The Robert Earl Page was designed using the enhanced features of HTML
that are suported by Netscape Version 1.1 or higher. The current
browsers supplied by CompuServe and America OnLine do not support these
features. However, CompuServe and AOL users can now use the Netscape
browser to view The Robert Earl Page.
Be sure to read all of the instructions before attempting any
installation.
Instructions for America OnLine Users
In order to run Netscape, you must be using AOL for Windows 2.5. If you
are connecting to AOL from a network, contact your network administrator
before continuing.
The installation steps are as follows:
- Search for any file on your system called WINSOCK.DLL
- Copy the WINSOCK.DLL files to a floppy or some other location for backup
purposes.
- Download AOL's WINSOCK.DLL file using the keyword WINSOCK.
- Copy the WINSOCK.DLL file into your WINDOWS directory.
- Download Netscape for free from here
and install it.
- Sign-off AOL and restart Windows
- Sign-on to AOL and minimize the AOL screen
- Launch Netscape and go to

Instructions for CompuServe Users
The installation steps are as follows:
- Search for any file on your system called WINSOCK.DLL
- Copy the WINSOCK.DLL files to a floppy or some other location for
backup purposes.
- Download CompuServe's NetLauncher using GO netlauncher
- Follow the instructions to download and install NetLauncher.
- Download Netscape for free from here and
install it.
- Double click on the Compuserve Internet Dialer to connect to CompuServe.
- Once connected, launch Netscape and go to
