PRESS RELEASE - SEPT 25, 1998 AUSTIN-MADE COLD WAR ADVENTURE FILM BEGINS THEATRICAL RELEASE IN NOVEMBER Marcus van Bavel's satirical Cold-War epic REDBOY 13 will begin a theatrical run at the Dobie Theatre on November 6th, 1998. The preview for REDBOY is now running at the theatre along with the feature SIX-STRING SAMURAI and the Dobie's other indie film offerings. REDBOY premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in 1997, and was also selected by the Film Society of Lincoln Center for "Independent's Night," July 10th 1997, at the Walter Reade Theatre in New York. REDBOY 13 tells the tale of a 13-year old boy who is trained by the United States Government to assassinate foreign dictators. Set in the twilight years of the Cold War, this satirical jab at the American military was filmed in the classic 35mm CinemaScope process, and features 60's television star Robert Logan as the boy's mentor. It was made by a small group of amateur and independent filmmakers based in Austin, Texas. Van Bavel has signed a production deal for a new movie, THE ODDITORS, with producer George Ayoub, formerly with Handmade Films, and now associated with director Terry Gilliam and Greenlight Film and TV, a television production company based in Toronto, Ontario. THE ODDITORS is a contemporary action-comedy about a renegade IRS agent. It will begin filming in Canada, and in Austin, in 1999.
