Purpose
The primary purpose of Living Books Living Center™ is to study, adapt,
dramatize and critically discuss children's literature with elementary
school children and their teachers in a public setting. Daily reading hours
at the Center for students and their teachers, weekend stage productions
of children's literature for the general public, and summer reading camps
for third through sixth grade children are events which advance this purpose.
A second purpose is to develop and maintain a library of children's
literature and educational resources to assist children, educators, and
the general public in their appreciation of literature and their understanding
of what happens intellectually, emotionally and physically when we read.
A third purpose is to develop and implement a Guest Speaker Series to
affirm and advance the work of authors and illustrators of children's literature.
Writers, artists and educators whose works are used in the classroom setting
are invited to participate in the series.
In the spirit of community service, Living Books Literacy Center™ opens
its classrooms, performance space and lobby (when the Center’s schedule
permits), to any group whose purposes the staff determines are harmonious
with the Center's purposes. |
