Here is the File Library for The Virtual SMOF-BBS.

The hardware for the real-world SMOF-BBS has now been retired, although I am still using the hard drive as a resource to supplement these Web pages. The SMOF-BBS (from the days before it went virtual) is known as "The World's First Online Science Fiction Convention". It began on January 26th, 1985. It had been previously known as "The World's First Online Science Fiction Fanzine", but Saul Jaffe's sf-lovers online community had a prior claim to that honor. There is a commercial upstart making a similar claim: The Dominion, official web site of the Sci-Fi Channel, has set up SCIFI.CON and are using the slogan "The First Online Science Fiction Convention". I've sent a couple of letters of protest, but they're living in denial. Their event happened over Halloween 1996.

Currently, the FTP file archive has the complete run of CHEAP TRUTH (the seminal cyberpunk fanzine), an almost complete run of READING FOR PLEASURE, and SWEET SAVAGE STAR TREK, an amazing bit of fanwriting from CompuServe, which Wilma Meier has kindly given me permission to archive.

For those of you in Australia, Adam Pierce has a complete run of CHEAP TRUTH available; use his link and you'll get better response times. By the way, I'm looking for a CHEAP TRUTH link for Europeans to get better access times, but haven't found one yet.
