This is a page for and about Mach Kernel Linux for PowerPC. If you don't know what Linux is then you don't know why it's been an incredible act of love and devotion for many, many people for it to make it so far in 6 years. Minix is for wimps, Linux is not Unix, GNiether is GNU. For a beginners course check out some of the embedded links. It's free software for free thinkers and other geeks. Get yours now...

I suppose I should say something dramatic at this point about 5 people struggling aganist impossible odds, about the fantastic people at OSF, the NetBSD and linuxppc folks who had a lot of the devices already driven, numerous independent developers whose nearly thankless tasks have yielded countless wonders... but instead I'll let them speak for themselves.

I'll list some good web sites for stuff, and maybe a little news item here and there. Update 6 is out and DR3 is supposedly just around the corner. AfterStep will play cd's on my 6116cd but I'm using KDE Beta 1's Kmix to control the volume. Thanks to John Ostrowick for pointing out that the kool KDE apps don't all need KDE to work. Their screen savers have found a new home in AfterStep too.

The second Beta release of KDE is out. Check it out and let me know how it is. The first one was Kool, buggy and a bit too influenced by minions of the evil empire for my taste. It was a little slow and a lot integrated. KFM, if it was a little quicker would be hard to beat on any platform...I hope 2 or maybe three starts to optimize into some serious velocity.

Netscape released a new Navigator standalone November 27, I noticed a typo in the ns-install script the default directory is /opt/netcape, a problem if you are upgrading and installing to the default. Other than that it seems to work well. The Communicator update on Dec 3 has some sort of delete/back-delete switch problem in the XKeysymDB probably, although switching the numbers just makes them both regular delete keys. I guess that's better than having 2 forward delete keys. The Open Page file dialog browser is fixed so that files appear when you surf your own machine. Millions of thanks go out to Netscape for this effort on the part of a Developer's Release. I appreciate as much as anybody the fact that they are fighting for a market share against the Evil One. If the only graphical browser in the known Universe was an Internet Exploder, I would use lynx with pride. Mo Mozilla and Death to the Evil Empire.
