PREP RESOURCES

The listing present here is not inclusive, but provides an overview of the types of resources that are available during planning and preparation stages, as well as during times of disaster recovery. Contact vendors when preparing a plan to order catalogues and supplies and prepare hone lists and contacts prior to a disaster occuring. Don't forget that fellow museum colleagues are valuable resources. Compare notes and, where possible, share equipment, supplies and additoinal materials.

The address of the American Association of Museums, American Institute of Conservators, and the Western Association of Art Conservators are included in the appendix list. These organizations have produced directories listing literally hundreds of resources. Contact these organizations and to obtain copies of their materials. It is important to keep in mind that resource information constantly changes. Lists of names and numbers must be updated on a regular basis.

An additinal resource that is easily overlooked is the local phone book. Review the " Blue Pages" and be familiar with the various local, county, state and federal agencies and departments that may be of assistance. During a time of need, organizations such as the National Guard may be of tremendous help. whenever possible, make contacts with potential support services in advance, including the local fire and police departments. Finally, volunteer organizations, such as various scouting groups, may also be an important resource. Be comprehensive in assembling resource lists. When disaster strikes, there will not be time to do this research.
