Villains and Vigilantes
I find it somewhat sad that Fantasy Games Unlimited, the publisher of Villains
and Vigilantes, has gone out of business. V&V had a lot of potential as
a game, though unfortunately it also had a lot of the lousy production
values common to games of its era (I think the copy I own is dated 1984?).
Players were expected to play themselves, made into superheroes. They were
expected to rate themselves fairly on a 3-18 scale in a few attributes, and
then roll on random tables to see what kind of super powers they ended
up with.
Side note here: HTML desparately needs a "sidebar" tag of some kind.
V&V didn't have the happy-go-lucky "roll and shout" quality that
Marvel Super Heroes has/had, nor did it have the
number-crunching precision and joy that
Champions has, but it had an okay
blend of each. I think I had some weird collection of powers that made me
into a telekinetic eagle man or something, when we played, but it was, as
you may have guessed, over ten years ago. It used all the dice, which
I liked. :-)
