Windows Security Update Bluescreens Computer

Saturday morning, i dutifully downloaded the latest security patches from Microsoft's Windows Update web site. I have a Thinkpad running Windows 2000. Unfortunately, the update caused my machine to bluescreen when it rebooted. I got a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED early in the boot up process.

I was able to boot up in safe mode. I tried to back out the updates. Of the nine updates, five appeared in Add/Remove Programs. I backed them out, but this didn't help.

I also learned then that there had been some problems with my latest backup, but after spending all weekend i was able to restore my system into working condition with minimal loss, other than my weekend.

So, going forward, i'm not installing any more security updates from Microsoft. Not automatically at least. They aren't worth the trouble.

I did try to contact Microsoft about this, but the best i could find was an option to pay $99, which would guarentee that my email would be answered in 24 hours. I found no options to call at all.
