I've been meaning to do this for a while. Why start one thread when you can start two? ;) Anyway...] The scene: Arthur's throne room. Lit dimly by torches, it reeks of rotton food and sex. Half-feral dogs fight for scraps, unpreterbed by what is going on. The giant, rough-hewn feasting table, the so-called "Round Table", has been overturned. Flies circle around its ruin. Mordred is wearing a purple and black jester's motley -- a deliberate mixing of symbols of royalty, fools, and death. Excalibur is at his side -- in fact it is in his hand. Sword and motley are covered with blood and ash, the result of the attack on the castle Mordred just mounted using a stolen Iron Horse. The Horse is outside, reduced to a pile of slag, but no matter. He is grinning broadly, having just finished dancing around the Round Table. He stops, standing before the gigantic inexpertly-carved chair that serves as Arthur's throne. There aren't that many people in the Throne Room -- most of Arthur's knights have fled. All that is left of Arthur's Round Table is Lance, scowling in his brightly polished armor. (Later, Mordred would note that Lance looked somewhat like Paolo, yet not quite the same...) Cowering behind him is Gwen, who looks distrubingly like a young version of Mother, wearing practically nothing and crying. And Arthur himself, trembling in his food-stained purple robes, his dented iron crown slipping around his ears. Mordred's smile flickers as Arthur begins to speak -- he looks so much like Mordred himself. "So..." says the Tyrant. "So..." He sweats. "This is the Dragon I've heard so much about. No matter. Sir Lance will slay you..." He glances nervously at the man behind him. Lance makes no move, not even twitching a muscle. Mordred laughs, cackling, with a slightly unhinged note in his voice. Licking his lips and gripping Excalibur even tighter, the bloodlust upon him, he steps toward the throne, grinning even wider. A cloaked figure steps from behind the throne. Mordred's smile fades -- he has not seen this person before. Could this be the Merlin that was said to advise the Tyrant King? [Your turn. ;) Take your time, sorry to dump all this on you at once.] Date: Mon, 11 Dec 1995 02:26:03 -0600 (CST) From: Craig Anthony Lucas Johnson To: Loki Subject: Re: Mordred's Flashback > The scene: Arthur's throne room. He is SUhuy... the maker and breaker of Kings... but you know him as Merlin.... Take your crown when you can... but your real father is more powerful... Take this pathetic variation which is naught but a real life training. The time is at hand... though I must punish my naughty daughter. Anyway, assuming Mordred gets to act, this is what he would have done...] Mordred raises an eyebrow at this strange man. "Well, sorcerer, if you be the demonspawn Merlin that I have heard tell of, one of the attributes of the legend hold true: You speak in riddles. I ken part of it, however. My father was a knight, and certainly more of a man than this tyrant. Stay out of my way." At this point, Mordred grins crookedly and leaps at Arthur, in an all-out attack aiming at slicing off his head, trusting Excalibur's scabbard to protect him from harm.
