IO Singapore: A 1st Anniversary and a New Partnership for Modular Data Centers in Asia Pacific

IO Singapore Colocation Data Centre

My colleagues and I have been in Singapore this week for the official announcement of IO’s strategic go-to-market technology partnership with StarHub, Singapore’s fully integrated info-communications company. The partnership will allow StarHub to bolster its next-generation network solution portfolio and increase IO’s market penetration in Singapore.

StarHub CEO Tan Tong Hai explains his perspective: “Companies today require a non-traditional data centre solution that is able to easily scale, to rapidly support their business growth. StarHub is pleased to partner with IO to deliver a state-of-the-art, software-defined data centre solution that is highly scalable and secure, and can be deployed just-in-time to help our clients to reduce costs and operate more efficiently.”

As it happens, the announcement of the StarHub and IO partnership coincides with the 1st anniversary of IO’s Singapore modular data center. So it feels fit to reminisce a bit on this past year:

io-singapore-openIO.Singapore – Exactly one year ago, we launched operations in Asia Pacific with Singapore as our regional headquarters. Here’s what we wrote in that day’s blog post: “Economic growth in Asia Pacific is at least double economic growth in the West …and technology adoption is growing far more rapidly in APAC. The message is clear: If you want to increase the value of your company, you’ve got to be in Asia Pacific. And Singapore is the best place to start.”

Our anchor tenant in Singapore is Goldman Sachs. Don Duet, global co-chief operating officer of the Technology Division, explained why his company chose IO: “IO’s innovative technology and services will allow Goldman Sachs to scale its data center operations more efficiently, and further advance the firm’s broader commitment to environmental stewardship and reduced carbon footprint.”

It was less than 6 months between when we started scouting locations in Singapore to when we cut the ribbon on the new data center. (Watch this very cool video of the IO data center modules rolling into the city.) It was a great proof point for an important capability. Here’s why: “IT needs to move at the pace of business; the faster you can get to market, the quicker the revenue starts flowing. In extremely competitive environments like Asia Pacific, where every one of your competitors is also racing to capture share, he who gets to market first often wins.” Learn moreTMI and IO Partnership – In May last year, IO named TMI as our distribution partner in Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei. That partnership advanced IO’s aggressive global expansion strategy to provide the world’s biggest companies with sustainable data center solutions that deliver extraordinary capital savings, operational efficiencies, and energy conservation around the world.

TMI’s General Manager Oon Ho Tan explained the partnership from TMI’s perspective: “With IO, we are empowered to deliver next-generation technology that optimizes service delivery, reduces risks and aligns the data center with the needs of business and IT.” Learn moreIO-Award-Receiving-PhotoFrost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Award – Last October, IO was awarded the Asia Pacific Product Line Differentiation Award for Data Centre Solution from Frost & Sullivan. The 2013 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Best Practices Awards recognized companies across industries commending their diligence, commitment, and innovative business strategies required to advance in the global marketplace.

In particular, Frost & Sullivan analysts called out IO’s data center infrastructure management tool, IO.OS®. “IO.OS, the data centre operating system, bridges the gap between managing and monitoring. It allows operators to view not only environmental and physical components but also digital infrastructure,” said Mayank Kapoor, Industry Manager – Data Centre and Cloud Computing, Asia Pacific ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan. “Furthermore, the ability to conduct predictive analysis for different possible scenarios really differentiates the solution in the market.” Learn moreIO Symposium – IO is excited to be working with leading researchers and scientists to continue to innovate data center technology. Singapore is already one of the top spots for data centers in Asia, and all signs indicate that digital infrastructure there will continue growing rapidly. With its focus on innovation through partnering with researchers and enterprises, IO is well poised to continue facilitating that growth. Learn more

It has been a busy year for IO in Asia Pacific. With the IO and StarHub partnership, that momentum continues – so stay tuned for much more.
