IO Receives U.S. Patent for Data Center Thermal Management Control System

IO, a worldwide leader in software-defined data center technology, services, and solutions, today announced it has been granted a new patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. U.S. Patent 8,873,336 defines the company’s thermal management control system for its modular data centers.

Servers and other sensitive IT gear within a data center require a thermal management system that goes well beyond temperature control. IO’s patented control system comprises a fabric of sensors and a controller that receives the data from the sensor fabric. The controller optimizes the thermal environment while collecting primary data and meta-data.

Optimal performance conditions can be tailor-made for each application running on the servers in the data center. IO’s Applied Intelligence team draws on this vast reservoir of data to spot trends, identify opportunities for operational improvement and predicatively manage the data center.

“This patent describes the essence of IO’s ability to intelligently control the data center,” said George Slessman, chief executive officer and product architect at IO. “IO is confronting data center performance and efficiency issues head-on by delivering our customers true data center optimization through automation. We are addressing today’s sustainability challenges while improving systems performance. It’s a win-win.”

This patent adds to the collection of intellectual property rights IO has accumulated through its advanced research and development work.
